UAE is home to diverse terrains, making off-roading a popular outdoor activity for residents. However, the choice of vehicle while off-roading makes all the difference. Drivers need a vehicle equipped with advanced features specially designed for off-roading driving. The Tesla Cybertruck is a formidable choice for off-roading and houses an array of features that enhance the experience. The Tesla Trail Assist is one such feature that significantly improves control and enhances safety.

Dive in for a comprehensive overview of the Tesla Trail Assist feature.

Tesla Trail Assist

The trail assist feature found in Tesla Cybertruck is an advanced driver assistance feature designed to aid in off-roading adventures. This enhances the vehicle’s ability to navigate on difficult terrains by controlling the speed, stability and traction while driving on surfaces such as sand, gravel and mud. It also provides greater control and eases the driver’s worries by allowing them to focus on steering rather than throttle control.

Here is everything you need to know about Tesla trail assist and its benefits.

Trail assist in Tesla Cybertrucks is available in overland mode. To activate trail assist, go to Controls > Dynamics > Off-Road > Trail Assist. This allows drivers to quickly engage or disengage trail assist by simply clicking the right scroll wheel button on the steering wheel. The initial trail assist speed can be set between 2 km/h to 40 km/h. Once set, the speed can be increased or decreased in small intervals by swiping the right scroll wheel.

The speed of the vehicle can also be increased or decreased by pressing the accelerator or brake pedal respectively. However, the vehicle goes back to the set speed once the foot is removed from the pedal. To increase the set speed while driving, accelerate the vehicle and swipe up on the right scroll wheel and the set speed will automatically change. Similarly, to decrease the set speed, brake the vehicle and swipe down on the right scroll wheel. This will change the set speed to the current speed of the vehicle.

To disengage trail assist, click the right scroll wheel button a second time and the feature will deactivate. Pressing and holding the brake pedal firmly while the car is stationary will also disengage the feature.

Some benefits of using Tesla Trail Assist are as follows.

Safety Enhancements

Tesla trail assist provides enhanced safety in challenging off-roading conditions. This feature automatically manages the traction and controls the speed of the vehicle especially when driving on steep and slippery surfaces. This provides greater control while descending or ascending. It also monitors the traction on each wheel and adjusts the power distribution to ensure proper grip on all surfaces. This gives added protection and reduces the risks of accidents due to human error.

Improved Off-Road Capability

Tesla Trail Assist off-road mode enhances vehicle control by adjusting torque distribution and traction, making it easier to navigate through rough terrain. This capability to automatically manage traction and control speed also allows drivers to have an improved off-roading experience. It enables experienced drivers as well as drivers with minimal experience to navigate challenging off-roading terrains without having to worry about throttle control. The low steady speed and optimal grip on all surfaces such as mud and rocks make it easy for drivers to enjoy the ride.

Convenience

Keeping a constant eye on the throttle control, brake inputs and acceleration can be distracting. This prevents the drivers from actually enjoying the off-roading adventure. Trail assist handles these controls, releasing the pressure from the driver and allowing them to focus more on the road and enjoy the experience.

Things to remember when using Tesla Trail Assist

Tesla Trail Assist can be disabled by pressing and holding the brake pedal firmly while the car is idle. However, just pressing the brake pedal does not deactivate the feature.

Additionally, trail assist disengages when the vehicle accelerates above 48 km/h. The mode then reactivates when the speed goes below 48 km/h again.

Lastly, trail assist is not equipped with any obstacle detection feature. This means that the car will not monitor the surroundings or automatically stop in case of obstacles in the pathway. Therefore, the driver should always be prepared to take over and brake in case of an unclear path.
